Carrizo Badlands Elsinore Fault

Carrizo Badlands Elsinore Fault
Name:Elsinore Fault
Date:10/27/2006
Location:Canyon Sin Nombre

One expects the ground to suddenly give way as they view this colorful canvas of Mother Earth’s creation. Amidst the hues of lavenders and reds, lies a sleeping giant, the Elsinore fault. “Last known activity of this fault was in 1910, registering an estimated 6 magnitude earthquake.” Looking at the lower central part of this photograph are sills and dikes of intrusive igneous rock. Further up the cliffs face, just above the pinkish color rock is limestone sedimentation. (Wikipedia, 2006)
