Many people are amazed the first time that they see the fossilized remains of seashells within the desert. These fossil remains represent several of the over sixty types of bivalvia shells of the late Miocene Imperial group. Seen above are Pycnodonte heermani, a species of oyster, Pectinidae, scallops species, and the Veneridae, Venus clam family. (Deméré, 2005)
