Coyote Mountains

Sedimentary Bedding
Name:Sedimentary Bedding
Date:9/16/2006
Location:Shell Canyon

The white rock embedded within this sediment is a layer of gypsum, and it represents a time when the ocean waters that once submerged this area were beginning to recede. Based on known information about the receding waters, it is apparent as to the age of this rock section, about 4 million years. Obviously the sedimentation below the gypsum strata is of older times. (Remeika and Lindsay, 1992)
